Nicole Criscione-Szesnat is a lawyer who earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Albany Law School. She completed her undergraduate studies at Trinity College in Hartford, CT where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies. Nicole is a lifelong resident of Colonie, a student of the North Colonie public schools and graduate of Doane Stuart School, cum laude. She and her husband, Albert Szesnat, reside in Latham with their son Nicholas and daughter Anna.

Currently, Nicole is a practicing attorney with the New York State Legislative Bill Drafting Commission. She is also of counsel to the Criscione Law Firm.

Nicole is a trustee of the Friends of Pruyn House and serves as the Recording Secretary. She won the Business and Professional Women/NYS Young Careerist Award in 1999. Nicole is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Capital District Women's
Bar Association and the Albany County Bar Association.

Nicole has a proven record of government and civic service. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Doane Stuart School Alumni Association and the school's representative to the Academy of the Sacred Heart National Network. She served on the Senior Services of Albany Board, the Colonie Senior Services Board, the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York Fire and Ice Ball Committee, and has also helped the local Red Cross raise funds for emergency services and served on the corporate committee for the Parsons Family and Child Center Lawn Festival.


EXPERIENCE

New York State Legislative Bill Drafting Commission January 1997 to Present Assistant Counsel
Draft legislative bills and amendments for Senate and Assembly members. Research and develop legislation to resolve current issues. Advise members of the constitutionality and effect of proposed legislation. Review program and departmental bills proposed by the Governor, Attorney General, State Comptroller and the City of New York for technical correctness. Conduct introduction to bill drafting sessions for state agencies, undergraduate and graduate interns of the Senate and Assembly.

Town of Colonie, Town Board January 2001 to Present CouncilWoman
Member of the legislative, appropriating, governing, and policy-determining body of the Town. Appoint all non-elected officers and employees of the Town. Acts on the budget recommended by the Town Supervisor as well as approving budget modifications or transfers. Creates non-compensatory advisory boards and, along with the Supervisor, appoints their members.

Prepare and attend real estate closings. Research and draft legal memoranda pleadings for civil litigation. Draft wills and counsel elder law clients.
