Elizabeth A. DelTorto was first elected to be Colonie Town Clerk in November of 1997. During her tenure, Elizabeth has made many improvements to the Town Clerk’s office including automating the office and extending the office hours.
The Town Clerk is responsible for various duties. She is the recording officer for the Town Board, keeping track of all local legislation. In addition, she is the custodian of all permanent records of the Town. The Town Clerk is the issuer of many state and local licenses.
Elizabeth is the election coordinator for the 60 districts within the
Town and serves as the Registrar of Vital Statistics. She served as the
Deputy Town Clerk prior to her election.
Holding degrees from Mt. Ida College in Newton Centre, Massachusetts (where
she currently serves on the Board of Overseers) and Russell Sage College in
Troy, New York, Elizabeth is able to fully understand the relationship of
business and government. She also serves as President of the Board of
Directors for the not-for-profit Colonie Youth Center, Inc. The Greater
Capital District Business and Professional Women’s Club named Elizabeth the
2001 Woman of the Year. She is a member of the NYS Division for Women
Governor’s Advisory Council, the Latham Area Chamber of Commerce, the Shaker
Heritage Society, the Friends of the Pruyn House, the Junior Friday Morning
Club. Elizabeth is a former member of the now-defunct Latham Business and
Professional Women, the Colonie Kiwanis Club, and the Albany Airport Rotary.
She is a Guest Reader in the North Colonie Elementary School Annual Reading
Program and a volunteer of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York,
Inc. In addition to her community service, Elizabeth is a Republican State
Committeewoman and the Vice-Chairwoman of the Colonie Republican Committee.
She enjoys her membership in the NYS Federation of Republican Women, where
she has served as the Director of Credentials for the last two annual
conferences, and the Town of Colonie Republican Women’s Club. Additionally,
she has held various volunteer positions for state and local Republican
campaigns.
